Not of Works
Are we justified by faith AND works? No, because “justification by works is antithetical to justification by faith. Justification by faith excludes justification by works, and vice versa. Works can’t supplement faith as a principle of justification. If you add works to faith in justification, they cancel each other out.”

Then how do we harmonize Paul and James? “James isn’t saying that justification includes works. Rather, he’s saying faith includes works–not in the sense that faith is partly a work, but that living faith results in good works.”

Not a Condition
“Is faith, strictly speaking, a condition of salvation?” According to John Owen, the answer is no. (Reformed Reader)

Not from Faith
What does Paul mean when he says, “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin”? And why would that be true? (John Piper)
