Question 18. Who, then, is this Mediator who is, at the same time, both true God and a perfectly righteous true man?

Answer: Our Lord Jesus Christ: (a) “who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption… ” (b)

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus … . 

But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall call his name Immanuel”

(which means, God with us). 

Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:

He was manifested in the flesh,

vindicated by the Spirit,

seen by angels,

proclaimed among the nations,

believed on in the world,

taken up in glory.
