Hail, thou once despised Jesus,
Hail, thou Galilean King!
Thou didst suffer to release us:
Thou didst free salvation bring.

Bearer of our sin and shame!
By thy merits we find favor;
Life is given through thy name.

Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,

First a traditional tune, and then a more recent one done by Indelible Grace. I’m not especially fond of either tune, and especially the Indelible Grace one. I know it’s the one many know for this hymn, but I find it monotonous and dull. Someone should come up with a better tune for these wonderful words.

O could I speak the matchless worth,
O could I sound the glories forth
Which in my Saviour shine,
I’d soar, and touch the heavenly strings,
And vie with Gabriel while he sings
In notes almost divine.

I’d sing the precious blood he spilt,
My ransom from the dreadful guilt
Of sin, and wrath Divine:
