Sunday's Hymn: All the Way My Savior Leads Me

All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.

All the way my Savior leads me
O the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way.

A Word of Comfort and Hope

I posted at Out of the Ordinary this morning on what it means that God ordains whatever happens, and what difference this makes.

When we use “ordained” to describe an event in history, we mean that God put it in his plan and then unfolded things, including this event, according to the plan. Ordained history consists of ordained causes and effects, all in their proper places, chained together, tugging forward toward God’s planned completion. It’s the same for the future; the ordained future will unfold and then wrap up just as God intends.

Thankful Thursday

I’m thankful

  • for my ordinary quiet life. I have no drama, no big plans, no exciting news. And that suits me just fine.
  • for midnight sun. As soon as I finish this, I’ll take the dog out for his before bed walk, and it will be 11:30pm and still daylight. This is one of my favorite times of the year.
  • for God’s protection. I’ve got no “near miss” stories, but I figure that just means he’s protecting me from even the near misses. When I think about what could happen, what would happen, minus God’s protection, I am very thankful for each safe day.
  • for God’s power. We’ve been having frequent thunderstorms, unusual for us, and a reminder of our powerful God who “rides upon the storm.”
  • for yesterday with the toddler granddaughters. I am thankful that they enjoy each other so much. I’m thankful that we’ve got a peaceful rhythm to the days together.
  • for mangoes and avacadoes. For the variety of fresh fruits and vegetable in my supermarket.
  • that God is faithful and unchanging.
  • for the promise of tomorrow and eternity.

What are you thankful for?
