Linked Together: Two Reasons for Hope

From Charles Wesley
A beautiful hymn looking forward in anticipation to restored friendships in “that eternal day.”  It would be perfect sung at the funeral of a believer (The Happy Wonderer).

From John MacArthur
That we will have glorified bodies is another reason for hope.

Death results in the separation of the body and the soul. Our bodies go to the grave and our spirits go to the Lord. The separation continues until the resurrection: “Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear His voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment” (John 5:28–29). Right now the souls of believers who have died are in heaven. Someday their bodies will be resurrected and joined to their spirits, and they will enjoy the eternal perfection of body and soul.”

Thankful Thursday

Already it’s Thursday again. I’m thankful

  • for weeks, seasons, and time.
  • for time to spend with the ones I love, and time to do what I need to do; for time to read, and think and rest.
  • for the daylight hours that grow my garden, and the weeks and months that grow my grandchildren.
  • that God has determined my allotted time and that my times are in his hands.
  • that God brought me through the trials of my past and that he will bring me through the trials of my future.
  • that God who created time has a plan for it, a plan he is unfolding day after day, year after year, century after century, from creation to eternity.
  • that God the Son, who created time, entered it, and died and rose again in history in order to redeem his people and his creation.
  • that he will come again at the end of the age.
  • for the promise of a new day tomorrow and an eternity spent always with the Lord.
