Theology
On the history of theological thought (The Upward Call).

Yes, I’m linking to Of First Importance quoting Michael Horton quoting Dororothy Sayers on the Christian faith as “the most exciting drama.”

And central to the story is the Kingdom. (DeYoung, Restless, and Reformed)

Testimony

New Blogger Review Guidelines
As you’ve probably heard, the FTC has new rules (pdf) for bloggers who endorse products, and by “endorsing,” they seem to mean “give a positive review.” These rules also seem to apply to reviews posted on Amazon.

The new rules won’t apply directly to me because I’m blogging and reviewing from Canada, but since the publishers who send me free review copies of books are all American, I’m guessing I’ll have to disclose the relationship on my reviews anyway. I don’t mind doing that, but I’m a little annoyed by the whole thing, especially since newspaper reviewers don’t have to disclose that they receive free review copies.

As I mentioned at the end of my last book review, I receive most of the books I review free from the publishers. Some are books I request, but many show up in my mailbox unsolicited.

Why I Blog
Yes, I know you’ve probably seen this linked elsewhere, but this is exactly how I feel about blogging: It’s a tool for learning (Between Two Worlds). I learn best as I try to explain things in writing. How about you? How do you learn?

Extreme Biking
Max Hirschberg tells us the story of his bike ride from Dawson City, Yukon to Nome, Alaska in 1900.

The day I left Dawson, March 2, 1900 was clear and crisp, 30° below zero. I was dressed in a flannel shirt, heavy fleece-lined overalls, a heavy mackinaw coat, a drill parka, two pairs of heavy woolen socks and felt high-top shoes, a fur cap that I pulled down over my ears, a fur nosepiece, plus fur gauntlet gloves.

Sunday's Hymn

We’re having our Thanksgiving dinner today, so I’ve chosen this Isaac Watts’ hymn, which is a paraphrase of Psalm 147.

Praise Ye The Lord, ‘Tis Good to Raise

Praise ye the Lord; ’tis good to raise
Our hearts and voices in His praise;
His nature and His works invite
To make this duty our delight.

The Lord builds up Jerusalem,
And gathers nations to His Name;
His mercy melts the stubborn soul,
And makes the broken spirit whole.

He formed the stars, those heav’nly flames;
He counts their numbers, calls their names;
His wisdom’s vast, and knows no bound,
A deep where all our thoughts are drowned.

Great is our Lord, and great His might;
And all His glories infinite:
He crowns the meek, rewards the just,
And treads the wicked to the dust.

Sing to the Lord, exalt Him high,
Who spreads His clouds all round the sky;
There He prepares the fruitful rain,
Nor lets the drops descend in vain.

He makes the grass the hills adorn,
And clothes the smiling fields with corn;
The beasts with food His hands supply,
And the young ravens when they cry.

What is the creature’s skill or force,
The sprightly man, the warlike horse,
The nimble wit, the active limb?
All are too mean delights for Him.

But saints are lovely in His sight,
He views His children with delight;
He sees their hope, He knows their fear,
And looks, and loves His image there.

It Is, You Know...

Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.

So I’ve been busy, but I plan to post the Sunday Hymn tomorrow and then be back to normal blogging on Monday.
