Round the Sphere Again

Gospel
Bob takes on everyone who uses that well-known (but probably not accurate) quote from St. Francis— “Preach the Gospel always, and if necessary use words” —because, says he, “Here’s the thing. ‘Preach the gospel’ really does mean ‘use words.’”

Christian History
While I painted my dining room, I listened to these lecture on the life of Calvinsfrom Michael Haykin. I recommend them to you. (This is, you know, the 500 year anniversary of Calvin’s birth.)

Molinism
Turretinfan discusses Francis Turretin’s treatment of Middle Knowledge in his Institutes of Elenctic Theology. (This post features a video containing all the previous videos on the subject rolled into one.)

Sunday's Hymn

Oops. I put this together earlier today and then forgot to publish it.

One more lesser known hymn by well-known hymn writer Isaac Watts.

Lord, What Was Man?

Lord, what was man, when made at first,
Adam the offspring of the dust,
That Thou shouldst set him and his race
But just below an angel’s place?

That Thou shouldst raise his nature so,
And make him lord of all below;
Make every beast and bird submit,
And lay the fishes at his feet?

But O! what brighter glories wait
To crown the Second Adam’s state!
What honors shall Thy Son adorn,
Who condescended to be born!

See Him below His angels made;
See Him in dust amongst the dead,
To save a ruined world from sin;
But He shall reign with power divine.

The world to come, redeemed from all
The mis’ries that attend the fall,
New made and glorious, shall submit
At our exalted Savior’s feet.

Saturday's Old Photo

From my oldest son during last Sunday’s dinner (and he was serious): “When I go some place where there are kids, they always seem to gravitate toward me. I don’t know why; I don’t have any experience with children.”

This photo was taken during our trip down the Alaska highway in 1990. Oldest son would be 11 years old and his baby brother 7 months or so.

We’re still looking fairly clean and mostly happy, so this must be the first day of travel. The door to the travel trailer is open and I’m probably in there making a pot of coffee and fixing lunch or supper.

I miss those road trips with the whole family including the pets.
