Discovery Day and Other Tidbits

007282.jpg

  • This is a long weekend in the Yukon and today is a holiday—Discovery Day. I’ve taken advantage of the lovely late summer weather to do things outdoors, including prepping and painting yet another deck. And so the spotty blogging.
  • I have buckets of fresh broccoli from the garden, but no heads on the cauliflower yet. The heads on the cabbage are still quite small, too. Apparently cauliflower and cabbage need more sun than broccoli. I would post photos, but all the digital cameras in the house are being used elsewhere during this long weekend.
  • Oldest daughter ordered a new iPod, and it arrived last Thursday. According to the Purolator delivery man, her parcel came here along with hundreds of iPods intended for destinations all across Canada, but directed here by the 96W code for Whitehorse printed on them. Hers, it seems, was the only one that really belonged here.

A. Y. Jackson Paints the Highway

imageserver.jpeg

Alaska Highway between Watson Lake and Nelson (1943 )

Kim of The Upward Call has featured artwork by two of The Group of Seven. Here is a painting another one of the seven, A. Y. Jackson.  It shows the Alaska Highway between Watson Lake and Fort Nelson, and it must be early spring, I’m guessing.

Sunday's Hymn: Reader's Choice

We’re letting Lisa J pick the hymn for this Sunday. I’m happy to feature this one because not only is it one of her favorites, it’s one of my dad’s favorite hymns, too.

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
