Saturday's Old Photo

I take that back. I really liked them for a while. Then I wanted a new pair that had a more sophisticated librarian look, but my parents were big believers in the old adage, “If they ain’t broke, you don’t need a new pair.”
I took that as a challenge, but I’d met my match in this set of frames. Indestructable, they were, standing up to repeated runovers by my bicycle tires without so much as a scratch.
Eventually, in sixth grade, I got a new set of frames, not because I succeeded in breaking this pair, but because I finally outgrew them. Maybe next week I’ll show you that there’s really no accounting for a twelve-year-old’s taste in fashion, either.

Rebecca, I could give you a little competition in the "no accounting for taste" category with a picture of me in my first glasses. They were beauties. With a tad more upsweep, my feet would have lifted off the ground.I think my parents chose them.
Your picture is really sweet.
I had warm taupe ones with silver sparkles. I had forgotten all about that. But they weren't quite as large or upsweeping toward the corner as yours. I think I did like them. I got new ones at least every two years, because my eyes were so bad. :-) Now it's reading glasses from the dollar store, with my contacts. :-)
What a doll you were/are! And that sweet smile is the same!
My first pair of glasses were hideous. They were brown and resembled something like what Clark Kent would have worn.
My kids are lucky that they have had nicer styles to choose from.
I think you were a really cute little girl!
Wow, you still look the same! I wish I found my pic of first glases: tinted. I don't know how many seventh graders laughed at me.
