Moose Meat and More

32k.jpgThe city girl (aka oldest daughter) helped friends cut up a moose today. She has a pair of $300.oo jeans stained with moose blood soaking in the basement.* I guess that goes to show that you can take the girl out of the city, but city-brain is a little more difficult to remove.

She was rewarded for her help with (what else?) moose meat, so tomorrow for supper we’re having moose steaks, barbecued. If you’ve never had moose meat, you don’t know what you’re missing.

This afternoon I finished cleaning all the wild cranberries I picked, so perhaps I’ll make cranberry muffins. And we could have potatoes from the garden and maybe coleslaw made from garden cabbage and carrots. Then we’d have entirely Yukon meal.

It’s been strangely warm here, warmer overnight for the last couple of days than it was all summer long. We should eat our grilled moose steaks at the picnic table on the deck in the sun, I’d say.

*Well, they would have been $300.00 if  she hadn’t bought them at a consignment store.

I've shot many a moose... but only with my camera. Not sure if I could actually eat moose meat, but the cranberry muffins sound yummy. :-)

There's nothing not to like about moose meat. Honest!

We didn't eat the meat, but we have an amazing moose on our wall - his name is Wally!

Mmmm, I love Moose meat. My husband loves to fish, and there is nothing like having a meal that is the results of your own labour, fresh trout and produce from our garden. It makes God's provision so much more real and tangible! Enjoy your meal tonight.

My cousin is moving from Fairbanks to Kansas this week. What are they having the most trouble packing? All their mounted heads!

I had moose for the first time on a missions trip to Canada when I was in 8th grade. Wonderful stuff. My only disappointment is that moose don't usually migrate this far south.

Sorry, Candyinsierras, but you missed the meal! We do have one steak left over, though.

Wonderful stuff.

It might be my favorite wild meat.

That works for boys too. I'm deathly afraid of being attacked by a raccoon. Or a bear.
