Sunday's Hymn: I Will Sing the Wondrous Story

    I will sing the wondrous story
    Of the Christ who died for me.
    How He left His home in glory
    For the cross of Calvary.

    Refrain

    Yes, I’ll sing the wondrous story
    Of the Christ who died for me,
    Sing it with the saints in glory,
    Gathered by the crystal sea.

    I was lost, but Jesus found me,
    Found the sheep that went astray,
    Threw His loving arms around me,
    Drew me back into His way.

    I was bruised, but Jesus healed me,
    Faint was I from many a fall,
    Sight was gone, and fears possessed me,
    But He freed me from them all.

    Days of darkness still come o’er me,
    Sorrow’s path I often tread,
    But the Savior still is with me;
    By His hand I’m safely led.

    He will keep me till the river
    Rolls its waters at my feet;
    Then He’ll bear me safely over,
    Where the loved ones I shall meet.

Rebecca,
I smile every time you post a hymn. It's as though you were right there with me at all those Sunday night services. Wonderful memories! :)

Hello Trisha,

We don't sing that many hymns anymore, either, which is why I think it's doubly serendipitous that I chose this hymn last night, posted it this morning, and then in our Sunday Morning service, we sang it.

I always enjoy the hymn posting. I am new and have just been checking in for about 3 months or so.
I think the second tune is my favorite tune to the song. Our theme this morning was GOD's love and ended with the fact that HE is soon to return for us. My post today isn't about the sermon or hymn, but about John 3:16 and how we are working and learning it with our neighborhood sunday school class.

I clicked on the videos too soon. Now I'm trying to remember which tune I grew up singing. If it wasn't so late I'd call my sister. Next time I'll take the time to think of the tune. :)

I'm pretty sure my grandparents church (non-instrumental Church of Christ) sang it to Banneux. I know I grew up singing something besides "Come Thy Long Expected Jesus" to Hyfrydol. I've almost decided it was "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling." But then again, the words to this song come to me quicker to Hyfrydol.

I'll be at my parent's house later this week. My first stop may be to the hymnal on their organ. :)

Maybe it was Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners? ... or Alleluia! Sing to Jesus?
