Rebecca Stark is the author of The Good Portion: Godthe second title in The Good Portion series.

The Good Portion: God explores what Scripture teaches about God in hopes that readers will see his perfection, worth, magnificence, and beauty as they study his triune nature, infinite attributes, and wondrous works.

Sunday's Hymn: The Solid Rock

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain

On Christ the solid rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand

—Edward Mote

I posted several years ago on the meaning of the words in the first verse of this hymn.

This is my favorite go-to hymn when I'm hurting. Love all these renditions Rebecca. Hope you had a wonderful Lord's Day my friend.

Thank you very much for your most enlightening posts about "The Solid Rock"! I don't know if you are aware of it, but the current worship song Cornerstone from Hillsong Church, Australia takes the text of 3 of the verses from "The Solid Rock" and combines them with a new chorus and a fresh melody. Being from Germany and therefore no native speaker, although I consider my English skills as quite adequate, I had quite a bit of trouble to catch the meaning of "the sweetest frame"! Through Google I found your articles which helped me a great deal in understanding what the writer was trying to express and so I was able to make an adequate translation into German for the attenders of our service tomorrow, in which we are going to play "Cornerstone". Thanks again and be blessed!
