Question 29. Why is the Son of God called “Jesus”, that is, Saviour?
Answer: Because he saves us, and delivers us from our sins; (a) and because we should not seek, and cannot find, salvation in anyone else. (b)

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
… but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
