More Like the Hare Than the Tortoise

howitt_samuel_thehareandthetortoise.jpgI’m talking about my internet connection again. Today it’s faster, occasionally, but only in short fits. Then I’ll have no connection at all for a while.

The problem is wider than just my provider. I waited in line in the store today behind a woman trying to pay by debit card. The connection timed out three times and then went through on the fourth.

I’m going to try to finish the WLC post, but don’t hold your breath.

Rebecca, welcome to my world. :-) Nearly six years ago I moved from the city (read: cable internet) to the country (read: dial up) and I had forgotten just how slow dial up was.

A typical connectivity day for me is when the ISP simply disconnects for no reason at all, 3, 4 or 15 times a day (generally while I'm in the middle of something I've spent ample work on). I do have an accelerated package, which simply means it squishes all graphics so pages load faster. It speeds up my browse time by about 1/3, and if I really want to see pictures/graphics I have to right click on them to "view original image". About half the time the accelerator shuts down for no reason, and when it boots back up, that crashes IE7. Youtubing is 99% off limits, and uploading and downloading are generally set to take place when I'm leaving the pc to do chores. I can't browse while the transfer is taking place because it just slows it down even more.

Once upon a time the 'net was made for dial up... that day has long since past.

Ah yes... welcome to the country where life is slower, especially if you're on the internet.

:-)

Well, you certainly have my sympathy. :)

I'm still holding my breath, but I think things might be back to normal today.
